Cats are secretive animals, and they often hide the signs of disease. This means that you may not be immediately aware of changes within your cat, so it is important to regularly screen and monitor their urine glucose levels if it is recommended by your veterinarian.

Glucodetect is an easy-to-use at home tool that can help you screen and monitor your cat's urine glucose. Glucodetect are small white granules that you can sprinkle on your cat's litter. When your cat uses the literbox and urinates on the granules they will change from white to cream if there is no glucose is detected in your cat's urine or green/blue if glucose is detected. This clear color change allows you to easily record changes in your cat’s urine glucose levels and report back to your veterinarian as directed. The color change can be detected after 10 minutes and will remain stable for up to 12 hours after urination.

How does Glucodetect work?

The Glucodetect monitoring tool detects glucose in cat urine. The tool was designed and studied to monitor the glucose present in diabetic cats or screen cats at risk for diabetes.

Will a cat notice it in the litter?

The cats we tested did not react to the presence of the granules, and there did not seem to be any noticeable smell.

How much should cat owners use?

Use one whole pouch when spreading onto a cat's litter box. Since each box includes four pouches, be sure to keep any remaining pouches in the original box to protect them from sunlight. Unused granules that are still sealed in the original packaging do not expire for three years after manufacture. Once the pouch is opened and the granules are sprinkled on the cat's litter, the granules remain effective for 30 days or until it comes into contact with urine. The cat owner should remove any used granules from the litter on a daily basis.

Can cat owners use it with any litter?

It can be used with most litters available on the market. For best detection results, a clay-based (bentonite) clumping litter should be used. Wood and plant-based litters should not be used as there is a possibility these litters can react with the granules resulting in a false positive. Mineral litter containing blue stones should also be avoided, as this can lead to false positive results.
